The fifth annual Nathan Miller Memorial Baseball Tournament will be May 30, 31 and June 1 at the Delphos Stadium Park. Wilmington College will play host a Girls Basketball Camp for girls in grades 4 – 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 16 until Wednesday, June 18. Pre-registration cost is $95.
Leading the camp will be Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame Head Coach Jerry Scheve. In 23 years at the college, Scheve has compiled an 441 – 203 record with the Lady Quakers, including winning the National Championship in 2004. The purpose of the camp is to provide each camper with a greater understanding of the fundamentals of offensive and defensive basketball. This will be accomplished by emphasizing these fundamentals on a daily basis.

The Ohio Boating Education Course is being offered at various locations around the area. The OBEC is a classroom course fulfilling the requirements to operate a vessel powered by more than 10 horsepower on Ohio waterways. The fee is $5. Dates and locations include:

For the trailering portion, students must be at least 18 years old and have a valid drivers license.

The University of Findlay football program will hold an Elite Prospect Camp on July 7. The event is available to participants in grades 9-12.

The McCallister Scouting Report will conduct an underclassman football camp for high school football players at Thomas Worthington High School, a suburb of Columbus, on June 8.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Putnam County is hosting its third annual Golf for Kids’ Sake four-person scramble at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Pike Run Club, 10807 Road H, Ottawa. Money raised will stay in Putnam County helping kids. Mentoring is completed through adult one-on-one matching and through school-based programs that involves area high school students. Team Lima Buckeye, Ohio State Lima’s peloton, will host a Run to Ride 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m., Sat., May 17, on the Ohio State Lima Campus. Team Lima Buckeye, a smaller peloton within Ohio State’s super-peloton, Team Buckeye, is raising money for Pelotonia, a nonprofit organization that donates 100 percent of its proceeds to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
A Kids’ Half-Mile will start at approximately 9:15 a.m. Children’s activities and supervision will be provided during the 5K. The 5K route starts in front of the Student Services Center. The course includes campus roads, streets bordering campus, and a lap around the campus Quad. The Kids’ Half-Mile will be on campus roads only.
Pelotonia is a three-day experience from Aug. 8-10 that includes a weekend of cycling, entertainment and volunteerism. Several thousand will bike one of six ride options ranging from 25 to 180 miles between Columbus and Gambier. Fundraising minimums range from $1,200 to $2,200 depending on the route chosen. Pelotonia is able to direct 100 percent of every dollar raised to support cancer research.

Two Adult Running Programs Offered at BFR Sports & Fitness in Bluffton
Adult training programs for those beginning to run and for those who want to increase speed are being offered by BFR Sports & Fitness. Improve Your Run offers 6 weeks of group training for those individuals who are preparing for competitive races this summer. Improve Your Run will meet on Mondays and Thursdays (6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. groups) for six weeks (May 19 through June 26). The program will include outdoor interval track workouts and long aerobic runs to improve performance; access to the BFR indoor track is included as well. To benefit from the Improve Your Run program participants must be able to run continuously for 20 minutes or more. Lead trainer will be Keri (Hilty) McCoy; cost is $50 ($25 for BFR members). A second session of Improve Your Run will be offered starting July 21 and ending August 29. Adults who want to learn how to run or want to learn how to better pace their running are encouraged to register for BFR’s Walk to Run program. No prior running experience is required; participants will combine minutes of jogging and walking to progressively work toward a 5K distance. Lima YMCA, BFR Sports and Fitness of Bluffton and Delphos Soccer Association have teamed up with Challenger Sports to play host to the “British Soccer Camp.” Lima YMCA will hold the camp June 9 through June 13, BFR Sports and Fitness will play host to the camp during the week of July 28 through August 1, and the Delphos Soccer Association camps will be held from July 7 through July 11.
Each camp will run Monday through Friday, and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of 1,100 British soccer coaches flown to the United States to work on these programs.

The first Be A Beaver Triathlon is set for Saturday, May 31, in Bluffton.
Beginning at 8 a.m. at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, the event will include a 400-meter pool swim, a 20-kilometer bike on nearby country roads and a 5K run through village streets and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve.
Participants may register online at www.3disciplines.com through May 29. Cost for individuals is $50 until April 30 and $60 beginning May 1; for relay teams, it is $100 regardless of the date. On-site registration will then be available at the pool May 30, with prices $10 higher, and from 6-7:30 a.m. on the day of the triathlon, with prices $20 higher. Individuals may also register on site for any one of the three triathlon disciplines, at a cost of $25.
Proceeds will help the university’s cross country and track and field teams cover their costs to attend out-of-state invitational meets.
Participants will receive an event shirt, and finishers’ mementos will be presented, along with awards to the top three finishers in each age group. There will be professional chip timing, with results available online afterward.
Community partners for the event are the village of Bluffton and the community pool.
