LIMA — Endurance driver, Mickey Thompson, took three Mach 1 Mustangs to the Bonneville salt flats for a feature in Hot Rod magazine in 1969. The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is the performance-oriented option package introduced in August of 1968 for the 1969 model year. The Mach 1 package was only available in the “Sportsroof” body style, previously known as the Fastback style. It was never available on the coupe or convertible models. There were 72,458 Mach 1’s sold during the 1969 model year. As part of Ford’s heritage program, the Mach 1 package returned in 2003 as a high performance version. Visual connections to the 1969 model year were integrated into the design to pay homage to the original.

Kevin Hole, of Lima, brought his 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for 12 years. He bought the car in 2001, and it was in very poor condition. He started the restoration process in 2005 and finished it in 2006. He says his favorite memory is just watching people enjoy the car and the memories they recall.
