FORT LORAMIE — You asked for it, you got it. The top names in country music today will again perform at this year’s Country Concert, opening Thursday.
“We do a survey every year about who the people want to see. Who better to ask than our customers?” said Paul Barhorst of Country Concert. “Luckily, we were able to get the voters’ top three picks: Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley.”
“Jason is playing our place on Thursday, and leaving us to go play a sold-out weekend at Boston’s Fenway Park,” Barhorst said. “He’s gone from a headliner when we first had him here a few years ago, to a stadium headliner,” he added. This year, he’s had three hits off his newest “Night Train” CD.
Likewise, Brad Paisley has also had a big year. “He’s got “Southern Comfort Zone,” and he just continues to outdo himself. He’s got some laser stuff he’s doing at this show that I’ve never seen before. It’s a full sensory show,” Barhorst said.
But it’s not just the top three choices that Country Concert was able to snag for this year. Kellie Pickler has a new single out, and is fresh off her stint on "Dancing with the Stars." Little Big Town is returning, as is Jake Owen, Colt Ford, Chris Young and Lee Brice.
“Our feeling at Country Concert comes from what my parents started 33 years ago,” Barhorst said. “They said if you do what you say you’ll do and treat the stars well, they’ll want to come back,” he added.
But there’s more than that which brings country’s top stars to an outdoor concert in this remote Ohio farming area.
“Really, it’s the great fans we have and the beautiful venue. We have a world-class stage that allows these folks to put on their best show with all the bells and whistles, and they like to do that as much as the fans enjoy seeing it,” Barhorst said.
New this year will Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy and Lemon Berry Shandy available in 16-ounce draft for $3.
“And, we’ve added to our saloon stage so the capacity will be greater to see some great up-and-coming talent. Last year we added three new giant video screens to our main stage so everyone can have a great view of the stage. We say that makes every seat a front-row seat,” Barhorst said.
