Motorcycle-car crash kills Lima 19-year-old

LIMA ó A Lima teen died in a car-motorcycle accident Wednesday night, according to the Lima Police Department reported.

Rescue crews took Clarence Robinson Jr., 19, of Lima, to St. Ritaís Medical Center, where he died at 7:44 p.m. Wednesday from crash injuries.

A vehicle travelling westbound in the 900 block of Faurot Street, near South Baxter Street, attempted to turn southbound into a driveway. The vehicle collided with Robinson's motorcycle, which was headed east on Faurot at 6:43 p.m. Wednesday.

Lima Police Sgt. Paula Strickler declined to release the name of the driver or other details. No charges had been filed as of Thursday morning.

A Lima Police officer said Wednesday night no one died in the accident, but Strickler later issued a press release announcing Robinsonís death.

Funeral arrangements for Robinson are incomplete at Jones-Clark Funeral Home.

May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. There were 421,510 motorcycles registered in Ohio in 2012, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Thatís up 3 percent from 2011 numbers and 13 percent higher than numbers from 2008.

The patrol reported 509 fatalities and more than 11,480 injures from 2010 to 2012. In 2012, there were 165 motorcycle-related fatalities, a drop of 5 percent from 2011. There were 79 motorcycle-related citations issued in Allen County from 2010 to 2012.
