Harrod native recognized at Defiance College
Allen East graduate Tanner Engle was recently recognized as a “Rising Star” by Defiance College.
The son of Steve and Cheryl Engle, Tanner is a member of the football team and the Service Leaders. He is majoring in criminal justice and minoring in psychology.
Waynesfield-Goshen board to meet May 12
The Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education will hold a fiance committee meeting at 5:15 p.m. May 12.
The meeting will be held in the District Office Building.
South Science Technology Magnet creates Kiwanis Builders Club
The Builders Club at South Science Technology Magnet School has officially become a chartered organization after an April 30 ceremony.
The club actually started in November but has just now received full charter status.
The club’s mottos is to develop competent, capable and caring leaders through service. The club has already organized several events at the school, including a canned food drive and family fun night.
Lima native spends spring break volunteering in Mississippi
Raven Phelps, of Lima, gave up her spring break to volunteer in Biloxi, Miss., to aid in hurricane recovery.
Phelps, a freshman athletic training major, was one of 37 students to spend spring break volunteering in one of four U.S. cities as part of Baldwin Wallace University’s Alternative Break program. Students aided in a variety of projects in Biloxi, Chicago, Charleston, S.C. and Jacksonville, Fla.
Allen Lima Youth Leadership class to graduate 37 students
The Allen Lima Leadership Board of Directors, in partnership with the Lima Rotary Foundation, held a graduation ceremony for 37 Allen County high school students who graduated from the Allen Lima Youth Leadership program.
The goals of the ALL Youth class are to give hands-on leadership training, educate students about their community, teach leadership and personal values, and train the leaders of future generations.

Lima schools to honor longtime staff members
Lima schools will hold a “Years of Service” celebration at 6 p.m. today in the West Middle School commons.
A total of 40 staff members will be honored, 17 of them having served 20 years, six serving for 25 years, 13 having served 30 years and four having served 35 years.
OSU-Lima professor awarded grant
Ivo Herzog, Ph.D., professor of mathematics at The Ohio State University at Lima, was recently awarded a Fulbright-Charles University Distinguished Chair Grant. Herzog will be affiliated with Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, from February to June 2015. This recognition is reserved for professors whose work carries global significance.
Dr. Herzog will work on his project, “Categorical and Model Theoretic Methods in Representations Theory,” while in the Czech Republic, where he will study the interface of algebra and foundational mathematics. His grant totals more than $35,000.
