LIMA — Voting starts Sunday for the Community Service Partner Campaign, which will award a local nonprofit organization $10,000 in free advertising in The Lima News.
The campaign is sponsored by The Lima News and The Union Bank Co. and is being held in conjunction with the new community website MyOwnLima.com, which was launched in November.
“The selection of the winning nonprofit organization will happen in a two-fold process,” said James Shine, publisher of the The Lima News. “Residents will have a chance to vote on one of the 10 community service organizations that were nominated in December. The top five vote-getters will then advance to a second round of voting to determine the winner. “
The first round of voting will take place on MyOwnLima.com until Jan. 31. There will be one vote per person.
“The $10,000 in free advertising will help a local charity deliver its message online or in print, however it chooses. The new website will bolster our already robust print and on-line products,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Civitas Media, owner of The Lima News.
The nominated organizations include:
•American Cancer Society’s Allen County Volunteer Leadership Council.
•Arc of Allen County.
•Boy Scouts of America.
•Council for the Arts of Greater Lima.
•Equestrian Therapy Program.
•Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
•Humane Society of Allen County.
•Lima City Schools Career Tech’s project building a restroom at Cook Park.
•Partnership for Violence Free Families.
•Without Walls program for the homeless.
MyOwnLima.com allows readers, schools, community organizations, local governments and others to post their favorite photographs, such as vacation or sports photos; share upcoming events, such as Scout meetings and bake sales; and even write blog items.
Any local nonprofit in the Lima area with an IRS charitable designation was eligible to be nominated for the $10,000 of free advertising.
