LIMA — A fitness facility fit well with a physical medicine practice.

Plus, one of the doctors didn’t want to give up her favorite exercise place.

Physical Medicine Associates celebrated the grand opening of its Curves Wednesday, with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce.

The facility is at 939 W. Market St., part of the complex with physicians Susan Hubbell, Kurt Kuhlman and Matt Owens.

The doctors bought the Lima franchise after two other locations had closed, Hubbell said.

“I’ve been a member of Curves for more than 10 years,” Hubbell said. “I really like exercising at Curves and I didn’t want to see it go. I said, we have space, and I asked, ‘What about it?’ We thought it would be a good idea.”

The mission fits well with the practice, Kuhlman said.

“We’re a physical medicine practice, so we have patients who need rehab, patients who are trying to lose weight,” Kuhlman said.

The Curves program includes a 30-minute circuit exercise routine, custom meal plans and weight loss and management strategies and one-on-one coaching.

The facility employs one full-time person and four part-time people.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the facility closes at 6 p.m. It is also open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Call 419-223-0246 for details. The location is offering a 30-day free trial, Hubbell said, to give women the chance to sample the facility and program.
