LIMA — The local Ford dealership has its fifth owner in as many years, but this time it's a familiar name.Tom Reineke, owner of the Lima Lincoln-Mazda dealership on Cable Road and Ford dealerships in Findlay, Tiffin and Fostoria, has purchased the Greely Chapel Road dealership. Previous owners Mike Dever and Bruce Daniels sold off the business just a little over a year after purchasing it.Reineke said owning the Ford dealership has been his plan since coming to Lima six years ago to take over the Cable Road dealership. “Back then we weren't able to put the deal together for a variety of reasons. This time it worked out and we're very happy. The Lima market is a very good market for selling cars. It's been very good to us,” Reineke said.Reineke is the fifth owner of the Ford franchise since 2006. Dever and Daniels purchased the struggling dealership at a sheriff's auction in November 2010, after banks foreclosed on former owner Shawn Goulin. Goulin purchased the dealership from former owner Chris Lucas in 2008 and closed the doors just a little more than a year later. Lucas had purchased the dealership from former Cleveland Browns standout Mike Pruitt two years earlier. That track record seems to run contrary to reason that owning a Ford dealership in a town populated by A-plan-owning Ford employees and their families should be beneficial. Reineke said that belief is exactly what lead to the failures of his predecessors. It's a mistake he won't make.“The guys that came before, they knew it was a Ford town and thought if they just hung a Ford banner outside they would be successes,” Reineke said. “Just being here isn't enough. You have to give good customer service, continuously. And that's not easy now days. People have high expectations. But you have to meet them. That's what we have always done and that's what we'll continue to do.”Reineke said he plans to keep all the existing staff and add to them over time. He also intends to make some renovations over the next couple of years and shuffle things around. He will move his Lincoln dealership to Greely Chapel Road and rename it Reineke Ford-Lincoln of Lima. The Cable Road dealership will continue to house his Nissan and Mazda operations. He will continue to service all cars at both locations.Reineke, president of the Reineke family of dealerships that includes a Lima Lincoln-Mercury-Mazda operation, purchased the Findlay Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership from Stan and Pat Kujawa in 2010. The family also operates Reineke Ford, Inc. in Fostoria; Reineke's Tiffin Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, Inc. in Tiffin; Reineke Lincoln-Mercury-Mazda in Lima; and Reineke Motors Inc. Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in Upper Sandusky. The Reineke organization was started by Bill Reineke Sr. in 1960, in Fostoria.Reineke knows there are some skittish Ford owners in town who may have had trouble with the dealership in the past. He hopes they will give him a chance to make it right.“If you own a Ford, we will take care of you. If you have had trouble in the past, we'll try and make it right. We look forward to being in Lima for a very long time,” Reineke said. You can comment on this story at www.limaohio.com.
