A Nov. 6 benefit was held at the Howard Johnson facility on Roschman Avenue with the purpose of helping youth programs in Lima. The night was an extraordinary sucess with performances by Chuck Sommers, C.J. Manning, Marcia, as well as Devine Information. The audience was large, polite and diverse. No, it wasn’t Paris, but it was Lima at its best.
It is interesting that in the following Tuesday’s newspaper, Kiarash Zarezadeh commented about all the night life that this city does not have and that he needs something more than top 40 pop songs and the need to see romance on the dance floor. Mr Zarezadeh, we had all that and more on this night, but more importantly, we raised a substantial amount of money to help keep these programs moving.
Nothing would have been possible without the generous support of the many who contributed to this event: Ray’s Grocery, Subway, DeHaven’s, Western Sizzlin’, ArtSpace Lima, Beer Barrel/Happy Daz, the Pipefitters Union Local 776, the United Auto Workers labor council, Clear Channel Radio, The Lima News, Howard Johnson and the Metropole, and all the many individuals and volunteers who gave their time or donations to make this evening so successful.
