LIMA — Not much is cooler than hot jazz. And this year, ArtSpace/Lima will bring some of the hottest jazz to one of Lima’s hottest spots, the greenhouse at DeHaven’s Home and Garden Showplace.
“People loved it last year. It was unreal,” said Tim DeHaven, owner of the greenhouse. “Jazz tends to bring out a very eclectic group of people, and having such a diverse group here was great. Of course, the greenhouse is a really neat ambiance,” he said.
Kay VanMeter said that last year’s sell-out event has caused this year’s offering to be the first of a new staple in ArtSpace’s stable of annual events.
“We’re thinking that the first Friday of December will be Jazz in the Greenhouse, as long as Tim and JoAnn will have us,” said VanMeter, associate manager at ArtSpace/Lima.
But jazz at Christmas?
“Jazz is traditionally a free-form of music. It lends its own interpretation to the listener, which people love, no matter the season,” VanMeter said.
This year’s show will feature Ms Jaz and Jamset from Cincinnati. Described as part Billie Holiday, part Sarah Vaughn and part Anita Baker, she has recorded two internationally acclaimed CDs. Along with jazz, she sings rhythm and blues, Motown, adult contemporary, and blues.
“I think again this year, we’ve got something for everyone. And with lots of Christmas decorations and a ton of lights, it will be really special,” VanMeter said.
DeHaven adds that “for $15 and the cost of drinks, that’s cheap entertainment.”
